Job Description Overview: Currituck County Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced Exceptional Children's Teacher to join our team to support our students with special needs that require additional social/emotional and behavioral support. This position plays a crucial role in supporting students with behavioral challenges within the Exceptional Children's program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally by implementing specialized behavior management strategies and collaborating closely with school staff and families to support positive academic and behavioral growth.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
    • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with behavioral needs.
    • Ensure IEPs are aligned with student goals, academic standards, and behavioral expectations.
  2. Behavioral Assessments and Interventions:
    • Conduct behavioral assessments to identify student needs and develop appropriate interventions.
    • Implement evidence-based behavior management strategies tailored to individual student requirements.
    • Collaborate with behavior specialists, school psychologists, counselors, and other support staff to design comprehensive behavior plans.
  3. Classroom Support:
    • Provide direct support and instruction to students within the classroom setting to meet academic goals and learning standards.
    • Assist general education teachers in implementing behavior management techniques and accommodations.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
  4. Data Collection and Progress Monitoring:
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress,including academic and behavior data.
    • Regularly monitor and adjust behavior plans based on data analysis and student performance.
  5. Parent and Community Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior goals, and strategies for support at home.
    • Collaborate with community resources and agencies to provide additional support and services for students as needed.
  6. Professional Development:
    • Stay current with research, trends, and best practices in behavior management and special education.
    • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in supporting students with special needs.
